Football was disrupted again this weekend due to the relentless rain causing havoc and many fixtures having to resign themselves to defeat by the weather Gods !!!

Our Brisbane League women’s teams still travelled to a wet fixture away to University of Qld.

Brisbane Women’s Premier League Reserves

First up were the Reserves, the game was a pretty even affair with both teams holding their own and pressuring at either end of the field in a back and forth battle.

The ladies were knocking the ball around nicely and for a team made up of predominantly new players to the club this season they held their own and strung together some great passages of play.

The Ladies had their chances and goalkeeper Katie Mac made some great saves to keep the game even into the second half.

The second half was much the same as the first but it was UQ that jumped on their opportunities and unfortunately got over the line finishing 2-0 winners.

Brisbane Women’s Premier League

Next up were our Premier women, with the rain still persisting they lined up for what they hoped would be a repeat of what was an epic cup battle between these two sides before the world was held up by COVID.

They began well and dominated the first 20 minutes, putting UQ under pressure immediately but they could not turn that pressure into an early goal.

UQ drew first blood breaking quickly, capitalising on a slow transition making no mistake in finishing their chance, they quickly backed that up with a second goal which then put them 2-0 up.

The rest of the half continued to be highly competitive but the ladies could not capitalise and hit back quickly, UQ went on and grabbed a fortuitous 3rd just before half time.

A tough ask in the second half for the ladies, but they remained in the game and pushed to try and get something out of it, unfortunately UQ were gifted 2 more in the last 15 minutes and ran away 5-0 winners.

Not the start that either team wanted but there were positives to take from the games and the Ladies will look to bounce back quickly next week in their first home fixture v Virginia.

Heads up Ladies !!
